Rachel Sanger

Event Coordinator

Rachel is an experienced event organiser with a strong background in planning, coordinating and delivering successful events across Southampton.

Having competed in dance festivals herself during her younger years, Rachel understands the excitement, anticipation and dedication involved in competitive dance.

She has extensive experience organising weddings, charity events, school fundraisers and community initiatives. Her practical, detail-oriented approach helps ensure that the festival runs smoothly and efficiently.

A former primary school teacher, Rachel also has a strong understanding of working with children, families and educational communities. She now works within the childcare sector and is also a busy mum to two daughters.

As Co-Founder of Shirley Dance Festival, Rachel manages much of the practical organisation and coordination, helping create a professional, welcoming and memorable experience.

Rachel is passionate about ensuring every dancer, teacher and family feels welcomed, supported and valued.

Bryony Pickup

Dance Educator & Choreographer

Bryony is an experienced dance educator, choreographer and performing arts professional, with a background in dance training, education and performance development.

As the founder and principal of Pickup Dance Southampton, Bryony has dedicated her teaching career to nurturing young performers, developing technical excellence and creating opportunities for dancers to flourish.

Her teaching spans Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, Freestyle, Gymnastic Dance and Aerial Arts. She holds professional teaching qualifications with the National Association of Teachers of Dancing (NATD) and the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA).

Bryony also holds specialist qualifications in Acrobatic Arts, Aerial Hoop and Silks, Pilates and Progressing Ballet Technique, and is a qualified Acrobatic Arts Adjudicator.

Previously Head of a College Dance Department, she has extensive experience in dance education, curriculum development and preparing students for further training and professional careers.

Alongside her studio and festival work, Bryony also founded The Dance Classroom and Dance Teacher CPD, two educational platforms supporting dancers and dance educators.

Bryony believes festivals should celebrate achievement, build confidence, encourage artistry and inspire a lifelong love of dance.
